Inspiration

This Thursday on the trip to New York, how could I not be inspired? My favorite exhibit hands down was the slash exhibit. Everything was made from torn or cut paper. Its so interesting to see that projects I've done in the past for the VC program are so similar to the work of professional artists. I am including some of my favorite works from Slash as well as their home page for anyone who didn't make it to the exhibit to check out!

Drop Cap Process

For last week's drop cap, we were supposed to create a green letter. I decided to go with the letter S for shamrock. I was feeling festive and wanted to make something fun and child-like. I started out making some small sketches and when I found the letter I liked best I used colored pencils to complete the letter.

Inspiration

Went visiting Rose Tree park a few weeks ago, a local park in my neighborhood, I was inspired by the sky and trees so I brought my camera to take some pictures. When it came time to make my poster I wanted to use one of the pictures as a background.

Dilation Process

For these posters I wanted to use one of my own pictures for a background for one of the posters. I was inspired when I visited a park near my house a few weeks ago. I edited one of the pictures in photoshop and then finished in indesign. For my second poster I used an image from one of Sister Hazel's album covers. I cut it out and brought it into indesign to finish the poster.

Radial Process

For my radial poster process, I wanted to try creating my own background. I started by spreading different colored watercolors on wet paper. I then played around with the saturation in photoshop. Once I had background I liked I added the type in indesign.

Drop Cap Process

For the found object drop cap I saw a pile of rocks while walking home from class and thought they would make for an interesting letter R. I spread them all out and began seeing which ones fit together. I then hot glued them together and there you have it!

inspiration

My mom always sends me interesting web sites and she recently sent me the page of an artist Julian Beever who makes huge optical illusions using only chalk. To have something look so 3D on a flat surface like the sidewalk using chalk is just too cool! Enjoy! http://users.skynet.be/J.Beever/pave.htm

Drop Cap Process

For my 3-D dropcap, I continued working with the letter A. I was experimenting with q-tips, and the idea I had in mind worked well with the lines of the capital A.

For my drop cap I'd been working with the letter A. For the first, I was going for an organic feel. After listening to feedback from the class, I went back and removed the angles and tried to make it even more plant-like.
